THE VIOLENCE AGAINST PERSONS (PROHIBITION) ACT, 2015

 
 

WHAT IT PROTECTS YOU FROM::
The law protects men, women and children from violence by discouraging other people, through threats of sanctions such as imprisonment terms and fines, from committing harmful activities that affect them. The law equally protects men, women and children who have become victims of all forms of violence, whether physical, sexual, psychological, verbal, emotional or economic, and whether such violence are caused by a member of one’s family, a relative, a neighbour or a meber of one’s community. The VAPP Act puts in place procedures for getting help and for preventing the violence to continue.

The law also protects from any act or attentpted act perspetrated by the State or a non-State actor before, during and after elections, in conflict or war situations, which threatens peace, security and well-being of any person or the nation as a whole.
