EXPLANATION
SANCTIONS A JUDGE MAY ORDER

Forced financial dependence or economic abuse

This provision of the law protects against forced financial dependence; denial of inheritance or succession rights; unreasonable deprivation of economic or financial resources to which any person is entitled  or which any person requires out of necessity, including household necessities, mortgage bond repayments, payment of rent in respect of shared residence; or the unreasonable disposal or destruction of household effects or other property in which any person has an interest.

People who attempt to commit such act of violence; or incite; aid; abet; counsel; receive or assist another person in committing such act are also punished.
Imprisonment for 2 years or less depending on the cirmcumstances of each case; or a fine of less than ₦500,000 or both imprisonment and a fine.
