EXPLANATION
SANCTIONS A JUDGE MAY ORDER

Emotional, verbal and psychological abuse

This refers to a pattern of degrading or humiliating conduct towards any person, including repeated insulting, ridicule or name calling, repeated threats to cause emotional pain or the repeated exhibition of obessive possessiveness, which is of such a nature as to constitute a serious invasion of such person’s privacy, liberty, integrity or security.

People who attempt to commit such act of violence; or incite; aid; abet; counsel; receive or assist another person in committing such act are also punished.
Imprisonment for 1 year or less depending on the cirmcumstances of each case; or a fine of less than ₦200,000 or both imprisonment and a fine.
