SANCTIONS A JUDGE MAY ORDER

Harmful widowhood practices

This targets any forms of ill-treatment inflicted on a widow on the ground of some cultural practices or belief and which negatively affects the physical, mental and emotional well-being of the widow.

People who attempt to commit such act of violence; or incite; aid; abet; counsel; receive or assist another person in committing such act are also punished.

 

Imprisonment for 2 years or less depending on the cirmcumstances of each case; or a fine of less than ₦ 500,000 or both imprisonment and a fine.
