  • GENERAL LIMITATION OF THESE BASIC RIGHTS

The Constitution provides that these fundamental rights can be limited in exceptional circumstances, by laws adopted in the interest of defence of the Nigerian territory, public safety, public order, public morality or public health, or for the purpose of protecting the rights and freedoms of other persons.

The rights to life and freedom of movement in particular can be limited in periods of emergency declared by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
