Right to life: guarantees that no one shall be deprived intentionally of his or her life.

The right to life can be limited, for example in the case of the application of a death sentence by a court of law in respect of a criminal offence. Exceptionally too, the right to life can be limited to prevent the escape of a person lawfully detained or for the purpose of suppressing a riot, insurrection or mutiny. In the process of police arrest, the taking of human life is permitted, only if it is objectively and reasonably necessary.
